Politics took a back-seat this week as the game of Ultimate itself rose to the occasion and delivered a powerful reminder of why we love it so much. 2 brilliantly competitive games saw the bottom 2 sides defeat the top 2 sides to leave the entire league delicately balanced. With 3 rounds to go, just one win separates the top and bottom sides, and every team has beaten every other team at least once. Only one conclusion can be drawn: ANY team is in with a shot to take home the HKUPA 2008 Autumnal League Championship.

On Field One, the Blue Smurfs continued their Mid-Season revival with a good win over White. Through excellent application of zone defence in the first half, they were able to shut-down Clev. Under. Man's previously awesome attack, and jump out to a 6-2 lead of their own. In the second half, tired legs saw the Smurfs switch to a Man on Man defence, and White jumped at the chance to score some extra points. The boys and girls in White looked to be in with a chance if the game kept going, but unfortunately they had only reduced the defecit to 7-10 by the time the lights went out.

On Field Two, Red(iculous) and Black Rain slugged out an epic match in which no side was ever ahead by more than 3 points. Black Rain's 2-0 start turned into a 2-3 deficit as Red(iculous) recovered. Red scored again to make the score 4-2, before Black Rain got a run on and threatened to take the first half in a washout as they lead 7-4. Red(iculous) had other ideas, surging again to catch up and overtake Black Rain, taking the half 8-7. The second half was much the same. 8-7 become 8-8, which became 8-9, then 9-9. In the end, Black Rain scored off a lucky turnover and had their noses in front 10-9 when the last point began. Red(iculous) did an excellent job of bringing the disc up the field against a strong zone defence, but in the end they just couldn't get it into the end zone quick enough. The lights went out with Red(iculous) caught 20m short of the end-zone, and Black Rain had won the epic struggle 10 points to 9. An absolutely incredible match!
